The broadsword is actually a Victorian term coined for the primary edged weapon of the Medieval period (back then, they didn't think their blades were particularly broad). These varied in length from 3 feet - 5 feet and were held with a single handed grip, a hand and a half grip, or a two handed grip. For both historical accuracy as well as ease of combat choreography, most our broadswords are hand and a half weapons. This means they are light enough to be wielded with one hand, but the grip is long enough to fit both hands if so desired.
